The Declaration, the Untold Story

The year is 1776, the place is Philadelphia, and the state delegations are debating whether to formally succeed from Great Britain. And war with the King had already commenced. It was an impossible task, this disunion, and everything was at stake including their individual lives and property. Unanimity was the goal. It was assumed that France may offer aid if the Colonies were united in this undertaking. Otherwise, they had no chance.
The local youth had a role to play and no just as servers and waiters at the State House and the local taverns. They were used as vectors to inject rumors into the mélange of daily discourse and gossip. In this play you will encounter Thomas Jefferson as he pens the Declaration, Ben Franklin as he hatches stratagems of intrigue, and Edward Lynch and John Dickerson as they argue for and against slavery. Experience the intensity of young love as it plays out during the threat of war. Meet Betsy Ross and her sewers as they do their part to aid the Cause and design the new nation’s first flag. In this play a story is woven that very well may be true – how it came to pass that a disparate America came together and collectively agreed to declare independence.
