Welcome to marinerpezza.com.
Back in the second grade, the alphabet was displayed prominently above the blackboard in both block form and script. And the penmanship was flawless; the curves perfectly continuous, the lines straight, and the circles were impeccably round. It depicted the ideal; a standard, that, I surmised, I could never attain. But I did. Come the third grade, the thought struck – I could read and write, or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof. Indeed, my first drafts today are always initially written out in longhand. It’s a smooth flow from the brain to the page.
I guess my serious writing career began about twenty years later. I was enlisted to write letters to the editor for the local garbage men. I have a friend who had a route and a truck. He got up at four every day, performed his societal function by eight, then had the rest of the day free. It was a great gig. The problem was – the city was planning to expropriate the businesses of all the freelancers. They can do whatever they want – they have the guns; they have the prisons. It was a lost cause, despite the fact that the local g-men did the job cheaper and better. We lost the war, but I may have bought them some time to make other plans. Most went into construction; roofing and such. And, wonder of wonders, I discovered that I could write, at least put ink on paper.
This page will evolve. The purpose: to discuss ideas related to the book. I’d like to establish a two-way exchange with my readers (hi mom). The Universe is a bizarre and strange place, but beautiful, and we all share a little bit of it. All we can do is . . . try to figure it out.
